China's Ice Dancers Under Probe After Displaying Toy Missile at Event

ISU officials have launched a formal inquiry following two Chinese ice dancers were seen with what looked like a replica weapon at a grand prix figure skating event.

Broadcast footage showed the skaters waiting with a large toy in the form of a missile marked “DF-61” as they awaited the judges' results at the “kiss and cry” area during the event.

The DF-61 is a new Chinese-made land-based long-range weapon capable of carrying nuclear weapons, that had been displayed during a national ceremony recently.

“The ISU is aware of an unsuitable soft toy appears to have been among those tossed onto the rink by audience members following a routine at the ISU Figure Skating Grand Prix Cup of China event,” the organization commented via a release.

“The soft toy was then handled by the skaters who had just performed. We apologizes for this occurrence and will investigate further.”

The duo placed in eighth place out of ten teams in the ice dance event, which was won by the American pair from the US.
