“That was unfortunate. That was kind of an interaction with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “There was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, our fans. The entire stadium was filled with enthusiasm for the Cowboys.”

He further clarified that the gesture was entirely unintentional, happening amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I just put up the incorrect finger,” he remarked. “The action was accidentally performed. This is sincere. If you want to call it accidental, you can. However, it got resolved pretty quick.”

This incident isn’t the first time an NFL owner has been penalized for misconduct. Previous cases include:

Panthers proprietor Tepper was penalized $300K for throwing a drink at spectators in January 2024.
