Diving into a Unusual Steam Demo: Guiding a Poop on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have discovered plenty of interesting creations from small studios. But, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer includes a protagonist that is truly a turd trying to navigate to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."

The gameplay is straightforward: just use a one button to leap. Across numerous levels, you'll face boss fights and visit a market to acquire skins for your dung hero.

Plan your movements with caution, as a mistake requires beginning again. Jump using air pockets to hurl your character higher, navigate disappearing platforms, and activate buttons to reveal secret routes. Gather currency to purchase challenging levels where gameplay gets crazy.

Visually, the game features eye-catching stages and an amazing background music. The simple graphics featuring morphing basic polygons could recall players of classic titles like Earthbound.

While it's hard to think of other games where you are a coiled turd, video games frequently incorporated scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players make explosives from protagonist waste. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as soil enrichment. Naturally, fecal references shows up extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its silly idea, Unko Technica has already received significant awards, including being named best at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is ready at present on Steam, with the full game scheduled to debut on computers in the fall.
