Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson stated he barely escaped a potentially deadly collision during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when two marshals darted across the track directly in front of him

The concerning event took place on the third rotation when marshals were seen on the racing surface as Lawson was rejoining the race following an premature pit stop to swap his damaged front wing

Racer's Instant Response

Shortly afterward, Racing Bulls driver Lawson spoke to his race engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Could you believe what happened? I might have... taken their lives"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing"

"I exited on a new set of hards, and then I got to Turn One and unexpectedly appeared two dudes sprinting across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, frankly, it was extremely hazardous"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Obviously there's been a miscommunication somewhere but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's absolutely inexcusable"

"We fail to grasp how on a live track track officials can be authorized to just run across the track like that. I don't understand the reason, I'm sure we'll get some kind of clarification, but it really can't happen again"

Official Investigation Underway

Formula 1's governing body, the global motorsport federation, is currently investigating the events

"Subsequent to a first corner event, track officials was notified that fragments were located on the track at the turning point of that curve" commented the regulatory authority

"On lap three, marshals were informed and made ready to enter the track and recover the debris once every vehicle had gone by"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had entered the pits, the instructions to dispatch marshals were rescinded and a double yellow flag was displayed in that area"

"The examination is ongoing what occurred subsequent to that time"
